Why Eating Healthy Feels So Hard
Ancient survival biology. Modern food abundance. This is not a character flaw.
Our bodies think we are still hunter gatherers and will die tomorrow if we don't eat, so when we encounter energy dense foods that have both carbs and fats together, we get a huge reward signal making us gorge ourselves like there's literally no tomorrow.
We all know what I'm talking about and we each have our own food addictions that we can't put down once we start. It's biology and it literally hits the same parts of the brain that heroin does for opioid addicts.
Nothing in nature is high in both carbs and fat unless it is meant to fatten up the animal i.e. milk for baby mammals or nuts to fatten up for winter etc. Understanding that this is evolutionary and hard to override is step 1 in figuring out how to navigate it successfully, so here we go!
General education, not a personal treatment plan. If you have a medical condition — kidneys, pregnancy, disordered eating, anything your clinician is already following — talk with them before you overhaul how you eat.
